Előtanulmányi kötelezettségek: No special prerequisites is required however good knowledge of accounting and basic controlling terms is expected. All participant must be computer literate at basic level.

A tantárgy szakmai tartalma: The course aims at giving general overview of business information systems with special respect to enterprise resource planning software and the field of their applications. A basic overview is given of the structure of the leading ERP software SAP, regarding it functionality and features. The core modules of SAP - accounting and controlling - are detailed further in depth. As a part of the course students learn how to perform most basic and some advanced accounting and controlling transaction in the system. Special emphasis is given to understand and use the reporting possibilities that SAP uniquely offers, how to find relevant information in the system and analyze them with the drill-down function of SAP. In the end the course offers examples of the advantages of integration, as well advanced techniques in integrated ERP systems such as workflow. All functions will be presented via a sample company called IDES which is specially designed by SAP Germany AG for educational purposes. The main goal is not teaching the usage of the software, but demonstrating real life scenarios and their solution with integrated information and resource planning system.

Évközi tanulmányi követelmények: Assessment of student performance
Attendance is considered mandatory as working in front of the computer, following-up processes is a must for successfully mastering the curriculum. Therefore lack of attendance will have a negative effect on student evaluation. Students should compose a ‘work-book’ with their practice works in it by the end of course.
The assessment is carried out with a mid-term and end-term exam, both with a 25% weight, and with the ‘work book’ 50% weight. Each exam is divided into two parts: one (20%) is of theoretical questions which should test whether students understood the basic concepts, the other is a test (30%) using the SAP software, where the student has to solve a problem similar to the ones covered during the course.

Vizsgakövetelmény: Students should compose a ‘work-book’ with their practice works in it by the end of course.

Tananyag leírása: The course consists of two completely different teaching methods. The introductionary parts are given as lectures, while the rest is follow-up and indepent practice in front of the computer using the SAP R/3 system. Real life scenarios are a part of the education, showing how problems can be solved easily and quickly with integrated systems.

Órarendi beosztás: Week 1
Introduction to integrated information systems. Introduction to enterprise resource planning systems: definition, evolution, advantages, application and requirements towards it. Implementation of ERP systems.

Week 2
Introduction to SAP R/3: history of SAP, advantages, functional overview (modularity), interpretation of the concept of integration, workflow integration with SAP, architecture of the R/3 (three level client/server concept). Login to the system, demonstration of navigation in the graphic user interface (GUI).

Week 3
Introduction to accounting in SAP: basic concepts (general ledger, account receivables and payables, accounting information systems). Description of master data, create master data in R/3. Account payables and receivables: invoice entry, preliminary posting, payment entry.

Week 4
Vendor information systems: displaying account balances, line item, due date analysis, open item analyses. Performing accounting in account payables.

Week 5
Customer information systems: analyzing customer, due date analyses, day sales outstanding analyses. Performing accounting in account receivables.

Week 6
Further invoice entry in AR and AP account such as discounts after payment, claimed goods. Reviewing the effect of these entries in the relevant information systems. Invoice entry with the demonstration of integration from different modules.

Week 7
Overview of first mid-term. Complex problem solving and consultation before mid-term exam.

Week 8
Mid-term exam.

Week 9
Discussion of mid-term exam. Introduction to controlling: integration of controlling with other functions, components of controlling, cost center accounting, master data in controlling.

Week 10
Creating objects in controlling and developing cost center hierarchy. Defining secondary cost types, linking cost types with controlling objects. Defining statistic indicators and using them for sharing/moving costs between controlling objects.

Week 11
Planning for controlling objects, using different plan versions. Performing primary accounting for controlling objects. Reporting for controlling objects: planned/actual comparison.

Week 12
Example of integration: cash flow management. presentation of a cross application process: goods order inquiry, choosing supplier, order, entry of order, entry of goods arrival, planning payment, analyzing cash-flow, fullfiling payment.

Week 13
Workflow integration with SAP.

Week 14
Workflow management in SAP.

Week 15
Overview of second mid-term. Complex problem solving and consultation before end-term exam.

Week 15
End-of-term exam.

Kompetencia leírása: Students following the course will become familiar with a wide range of reporting and analytical tools SAP provides, and will learn how to obtain and categorize information stored in the system. The main advantage of the course is that it gives an overview of the leading ERP solution in the world, making students’ knowledge even more competitive.
