The Department of Finance is part of the Institute of Finance, Accounting and Business Law at Corvinus University of Budapest. Though organizationally we belong to the Faculty of Business Administration, we also hold courses for students of the Faculty of Economics. This reflects our philosophy: we consider finance as a science being a part of both „economics” and „business”, this way we intend to bridge the gap between academic rigor and professional standards.

Education

Our department is one of the leading academic departments of finance in Hungary. We have been teaching the most up-to-date knowledge to our students for more than a decade. Our staff took part in translating numerous mainstream textbooks in the field of finance that are considered international standards and taught worldwide. Our curriculum is aligned to the requirements of reputed international professional bodies and organizations such as the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and the EFFAS (European Federation of Financial Analysts’ Societies). Our main objective is to pass on high-level theoretical and practical knowledge. The feedback we receive of our alumni’s outstanding performance in both the academic and corporate sphere’s including banks, national organisations or consulting companies, bolsters our approach in education: a focus on independent problem-solving skills, and sculpting the creative mind to conduct innovative research. We are proud of the fact that the brightest and most dedicated students attend our programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Our department boasts with an alumni who constitute a significant proportion of professionals working in the financial sector of Hungary.

Research

The Department of Finance at CUB is one of the leading academic departments of finance in Hungary. Research activities fall into three distinct, yet interconnected areas: corporate finance, risk management and market microstructure. The international outreach of our research is highlighted by the Annual Financial Market Liquidity Conference (AFML) organised annually by our department since 2010. We also organise research seminars and lectures in finance open to a broader audience of students, alumni and the larger public. The Corvinus University of Budapest inaugurated its financial laboratory (FinLab) on 21 November 2013. The laboratory hosts 3 Thomson Reuters and 12 Bloomberg terminals, widely used professional trading and data resources in the finance industry.
