Corvinus Lectures in Finance

In the autumn of 2012, our department initiates a series of events that include lectures open to our students, alumni and the larger public. The events host professionals from the corporate world to talk about selected topics in finance ranging from market happenings affecting their firms to novice scientific findings.
Our aim is to:
-provide our academic and professional partners with a platform to reach out to an educated and highly-motivated audience;
-open the opportunity for our alumni to meet and interact, with the purpose of maintaining contact with their Alma Mater and for furthering their studies;
-keep our current students up-to-date with the industry’s latest achievement, development and news.

Clark Anderson has been a country risk specialist for 34 years, working with corporate, financial, and government clients around the world. For most of his career, Anderson has managed country risk on Wall Street, first as Global Manager of the Sovereign Risk Management & Advisory Group at Goldman Sachs and currently as Global Head of Country Risk for Morgan Stanley, where he also serves as Chief Operating Officer for Credit Risk Management. Anderson is a China specialist, having followed China closely since modernization began in 1978 and advising both the Chinese government and firms operating in China. He also has particular expertise in global energy issues.

Global Head of Operational Risk and Risk Infrastructure of Morgan Stanley

Cheryl joined Morgan Stanley in 2008 as Managing Director, Global Head of Operations Risk & Control. She subsequently took on responsibility for Enterprise Operational Risk & Control which was integrated into the Operational Risk Department in early 2013 to form a single unit led by Cheryl.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Cheryl was at Deutsche Bank from 1996 to 2008. During her last two years at Deutsche Bank, she was Managing Director and Global Head of the Bank’s Reconciliation Utility. She also served as the Chief Operations Officer for Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. from 2003 – 2008.

Michael G. McMillan, Ph.D., CPA, CFA

is Director of Society Ethics Training at CFA Institute. Dr. McMillan joined CFA Institute in October of 2008 after more than a decade as a professor of accounting and finance at Johns Hopkins University’s Carey School of Business and George Washington University’s School of Business. Prior to pursuing a career in academia, he was a securities analyst and portfolio manager at Bailard, Biehl, and Kaiser and Merus Capital Management in San Francisco, California. As the Director of Society Ethics Training, Dr. McMillan is responsible for creating and developing educational content for CFA Institute members and investment professionals in the area of ethics and professional standards.

Although ethical dilemmas are a normal and predictable part of most jobs, they can be dangerous to your career if you are not prepared for the organizational challenges that may test your personal values, moral beliefs, and commitment to doing the right thing. Clifford D. Mpare, CFA, CMA

is Chairman and CEO of Frontline Capital Advisors (FCA) an investment banking firm he founded in Accra, Ghana in 2009. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of African Financial Services Ltd., one of the largest Savings and Loans Companies in Ghana. And is a co-founding member of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) Pension’s Academy in Ghana.

Ron Hertshten is the Head of Argaman Algo Ventures (AAV), which develops and manages fully automated algorithmic trading systems. AAV works to source industry nascent and early-stage algorithmic ventures, as well as algorithmic-related research in academic research centres, for the purpose of developing algorithmic-based joint ventures that offer attractive synergies, scalable profitability, reasonable risk, and potential for long-term commercial operation. AAV is a division of Indus, a wholly owned subsidiary of GHF Holdings. Ron was previously the Managing Director of GHF in Israel and Eastern Europe, prior to that the Managing Director of GHF China. He holds an MBA from Yale School of Management, specialising in Finance.

is a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he is the Chief Operating Officer across Market, Credit, and Operational Risk.

At his lecture he will cover the topics of
Market risk and how the financial crisis of 2008 impacted the investment banking world.
Market risk is the risk of losses in assets arising from movements in market prices. Ken will provide insightful information on how Morgan Stanley - a key player in the financial markets - oversees and monitors its trading activities. The financial crisis of 2008 had a worldwide impact in the lives of all of us. As result, the financial industry is under bigger scrutiny and deeper regulation. Ken will address how the financial industry it is shaping itself to a new reality of higher risk awareness.
